Position Overview Contribute, alongside a team of two doctoral candidates and three postdoctoral researchers, to a large-scale project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, exploring electromagnetic forces in metallic melt flow and solidification for innovations in 3D printing of aluminium and alloys. Main Duties and Responsibilities Conduct autonomous research related to the project, including simulation, implementation, and publication of research articles.
Participate in teaching activities, supervise semester projects, teach practicals for undergraduates, promote materials science to high school students, and engage in laboratory organization and operations.
Candidate Profile We seek candidates with top-level academic credentials and a proven record in numerical simulation of alloy solidification. Applicants should be near completion of or have completed their PhD within the last four years (by October 2025). Essential skills include:
Finite element method
Computational fluid dynamics
Numerical modeling of heat transfer and alloy solidification
Desirable skills or eagerness to learn include:
Adaptive meshing techniques
High-performance computing
Solidification theory
Magnetohydrodynamics and electromagnetism
Capillarity
Porous media modeling
Transport phenomena
Fluency in English is required; French proficiency is a plus.
