Overview
Senior Assessment Officer - HSM/RNA for Somalia, based in Mogadishu (REACH). Contract duration: 6 months. Starting Date: 26 October 2025. Location: Mogadishu.
Responsibilities
Research Cycle Management: anticipate knowledge gaps; ensure secondary data review/analysis; plan cycles in line with country strategy and objectives; design research approaches and methodologies; develop data collection tools in coordination with GIS and data teams; engage stakeholders in design and planning.
Staff Management and Training: directly line manage HSM and RNA Assessment Officers; supervise broader research team; manage assessment logistics with Field Manager and partner organizations; provide data analysis; promote capacity building within the IMPACT Somalia mission.
Internal Coordination: interact with HQ departments; contribute to IMPACT’s strategy in Somalia; conduct regular meetings with national and international assessment staff; ensure teams are briefed and trained; support capacity training plans; provide regular technical backstopping.
Dissemination Management: draft timely outputs (factsheets, reports, briefs, presentations); ensure accuracy and alignment with guidelines; manage timelines and report progress to partners and donors; validate written products before external release.
External Engagement: consult and involve partners at all stages; represent IMPACT in external meetings; follow up on issues identified with partners; promote use of datasets for decision making; document and communicate partner engagement.
Data Confidentiality and Protection: maintain strict confidentiality; comply with data protection policies and SOPs.
Requirements
Experience: 3+ years in humanitarian settings (assessments, monitoring and evaluation, research design and analysis).
Research skills: strong quantitative and qualitative analysis; ability to adapt methodologies and analysis to high standards.
Humanitarian knowledge: understanding of the aid system; prior experience with humanitarian coordination forums preferred.
Thematic experience: familiarity with key informant methods and humanitarian assessments.
Communication: excellent verbal and written communication and drafting skills.
Education: Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., international studies, development, humanitarian response, data science, political science, statistics).
Software: MS Office; proficiency in R, SPSS, STATA or similar; InDesign experience is a plus.
Independence: ability to work independently.
Regional experience: past experience in the Horn of Africa or other challenging emergency contexts is desirable.
Language: English fluent; Somali is an asset.
Security: willingness to work in high-risk security zones; ability to operate in complex environments; prioritize self-care.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range: 3,000 CHF to 3,120 CHF monthly (before tax) plus a monthly living allowance of 300 USD.
Salary is determined by IMPACT salary grid; location adjustments may apply for security and isolation.
