Job Description
Our Company’s Schachen Biotech provides Biologics Drug Substance manufacturing for Early Phase Clinical Supply and Technology Innovation implementation into the pipeline.
The facility is designed to be operated in a multi-product mode, requiring flexibility to adapt to changing pipeline demands. A multi-product strategy for Technology Transfer and Facility Fit enables rapid product launch.
The Schachen Biotech Process Automation team links our pipeline stages and develops new technology and processes. We seek a Senior Automation Engineer to support DeltaV / MES Recipe and Technology Transfers, aligning from Process Development to our late-stage BioNX Facility in Ireland.
The Senior Automation Engineer will provide automation support, evaluate and implement process controls for novel equipment, innovative processes, and next-generation technologies. Responsibilities include troubleshooting in cGMP-compliant systems and contributing to continuous improvement projects for biologics development and manufacturing.
Responsibilities
Inspire diversity and inclusion within a cross-cultural team.
Serve as SME for control strategies for new equipment in a GMP environment.
Implement innovative technologies and software to streamline manufacturing and administrative processes.
Support manufacturing systems such as DCS (DeltaV), MES (PAS-X), PLC, SCADA, OEM systems.
Participate in continuous improvement projects, review equipment specifications, P&IDs, and System Lifecycle documentation.
Troubleshoot automation issues to improve performance and support new products, maintaining compliance with cGMP.
Transfer Process Technologies and support GMP operational status.
Lead automation investigations into deviations and corrective actions.
Act as automation technical lead for site capital projects.
Coordinate with external vendors for spare parts and service visits.
Support qualification of new systems, including test document development and review.
Collaborate across Operations, Quality, Validation, and Technical teams to resolve complex issues.
Support digital transformation initiatives involving system integration, data connectivity, and process control optimization.
Limited off-shift work may be required.
Skills Required
Bachelor’s in Life Sciences or equivalent with at least 5 years in automation controls.
Knowledge of computer validation/SDLC (GAMP 5).
Effective communication skills in English (C1).
Experience with DeltaV Batch, ISA S95, S88.
3+ years in automation/engineering in biologics/pharmaceuticals.
Experience with DCS (DeltaV), MES (PAS-X), Historian (PI).
I/O Networking experience (Ethernet/IP, OPC, Profinet, ModBus) is advantageous.
Basic networking, data analysis (SQL, PI, R, Python).
Experience in commissioning, qualification, and test protocols.
