Senior System Engineer - Linux
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-time
Location: Zurich Area (Hybrid)
We are collaborating with one of Switzerland's top universities to recruit a Senior System Engineer - Linux who is eager to contribute significantly within a dynamic and agile ICT environment.
Your Role
* Manage and continuously enhance a resilient Linux server infrastructure, both on-premises and in Azure Cloud
* Ensure operating system security, and oversee selected database and web server components
* Design and maintain container platform infrastructure (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker) integrated with CI/CD pipelines
* Administer logging systems (Elastic Stack) and assist with integration into security operations (SIEM)
* Develop and optimize monitoring and alerting tools (e.g., Icinga) in partnership with ICT teams
* Lead automation efforts using SaltStack and various scripting languages
* Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and agile ICT teams to support ongoing digital transformation initiatives
Your Profile
* Degree in IT or equivalent professional experience as a Linux System Engineer
* Demonstrated experience managing infrastructure technologies (e.g., BIG-IP, Elastic, Icinga)
* Skilled in automation and configuration management tools
* Solid foundational knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, reverse proxy)
* Familiarity with storage systems (e.g., NetApp) is advantageous
* Service-oriented mindset with a strong emphasis on innovation and quality
* Strategic thinker capable of translating operational requirements into practical solutions
* Strong communicator and collaborator, able to work effectively with both technical teams and business stakeholders
* Experienced in agile frameworks such as SAFe, Scrum, or Kanban
* Proficient in both German and English (spoken and written)
