Power & Gas Trader – Lugano, Switzerland – 100,000 CHF + bonus
Imperium Commodity Search is confidentially retained by a small energy trading house business in Lugano, seeking to recruit a junior‑mid level power and gas trader to join their growing front‑office team.
You will join an experienced, pragmatic team from majors, boutiques and power‑gas businesses, helping the firm expand across the European market in power and gas. The role primarily focuses on hedging customer demand along the curve and will merge into a mixed‑utility, short‑term power trading desk over time as the unit expands. There will be a strong focus on the Italian power and gas market, so proficiency in Italian is preferred. Lugano is beautiful but has few power‑gas trading businesses; relocation is likely and supported.
Responsibilities
* Delivery and expansion of PnL targets trading across Italian/European Power & Gas markets
* Closely monitor and communicate risks on personal power and gas trading book, working with internal stakeholders on timely reporting and monitoring
* Keep up to date on industry news, events and macro developments to capture profitable trading opportunities in power and gas
* Work with senior management on organic growth of the desk, building experience and confidence in personal trading portfolio with the view to develop customer hedging on the curve into intraday and short‑term power trading
* Manage and build relationships in the gas trading space and ensure PnL targets are met in target markets and asset classes
* Work with internal teams to manage and build supply & demand curves, balancing and optimization with relevant trading tools
Qualifications
* 1‑3+ years experience in the gas and/or power trading space, ideally in the Italian or southern European markets
* Good understanding of power trading dynamics, particularly in hedging customer demand on the curve
* Fluency in English and ideally Italian (both written and verbal)
* Excellent numeracy skills
* Understanding of risk metrics and management in a power/gas trading setting
* Ability to work in or relocate to Lugano, Switzerland
