DuPont Adhesives is looking for a laboratory technician (100%) for the development of structural adhesives at the European Competence Center in Freienbach, in the Greater Zurich area, Switzerland. The research and development center in Freienbach is equipped with R&D, technical service and analytical laboratories as well as application and scale-up facilities to cover all development activities—from the design, synthesis and characterization of prepolymers, to adhesive mixing, scale-up, performance testing, and full industrial-scale adhesive application. This supports and drives the transformation toward e-mobility and sustainability in the global automotive and transportation industry through the development and commercialization of adhesives and process materials.
Main Responsibilities
* Development of semi-structural and structural adhesives for body shop and battery applications in the automotive industry, particularly in the e-mobility sector.
* Support of manufacturing and support during the commercial launch of technologies in accordance with DuPont’s product commercialization processes.
Knowledge, Expertise and Skills
* Training as a laboratory technician, ideally in chemistry or a related field, is required.
* Experience and knowledge in polyurethane- and epoxy-based adhesive technologies are an advantage.
* Experience in the automotive industry is an advantage.
* Experience in project management tools and processes is an advantage.
* A self-motivated, agile person with excellent interpersonal skills who thrives on collaboration to achieve outstanding results with internal and external stakeholders.
* German language skills are required; English language skills are appreciated.
* Good knowledge of Microsoft Office is an important requirement for project documentation.
Accountability and Influence
* Independent formulation of adhesive recipes with minimal supervision from the project leader.
* Preparation (mixing) of adhesive recipes according to available process standards, including support for scale-up activities.
* Fully independent testing and performance characterization of adhesives according to automotive customer specifications.
* Fully independent documentation of recipes and results based on available templates.
* Preparation of customer presentations in collaboration with the project leader.
* Contribution to intellectual property documentation.
* Predominantly independent summarization and evaluation of project results in laboratory reports and internal scientific publications, in collaboration with the project leader.
* Execution of all practical work in full compliance with DuPont EH&S (Environment, Health & Safety) standards.
* Proactive contribution to continuous improvement of safety and cleanliness standards.
* Contribution to project milestone meetings in line with DuPont’s product commercialization processes.
Decision‑Making and Problem‑Solving Skills
* Proactive and independent development of technology improvements based on the evaluation of adhesive prototypes against customer specifications and project requirements.
* Definition of product specification limits and provision of guidance on manufacturing process standards in line with DuPont’s product commercialization processes.
* Direct customer contact and communication to enhance the effectiveness of innovative product development for key customers, in close collaboration with the account manager.
