Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced Radio Planning & Optimization Engineer to join our RAN team in Zurich. The successful candidate will perform radio planning, drive-test analysis and optimization activities for LTE and NR networks, lead feature trials and tuning, resolve technical issues, and act as a technical interface to customers and project teams. The role combines field work (drive tests, on-site verification) with deep KPI analysis and hands-on parameter optimization.

Key responsibilities
* Perform radio network planning and optimization activities for RAN projects (LTE and NR)
* Analyze drive-test and benchmark logs (e.g., Umlaut Benchmark / drive test data) to diagnose abnormal events and produce actionable optimization proposals (call drops, call setup failures, MOS degradation, data failures, low throughput, etc.)
* Conduct TOP worst-cell analysis and propose network, cluster and cell level optimization actions to improve KPIs (coverage, mobility, capacity, RRC/ERAB, PRB utilization, throughput, etc.)
* Plan and execute feature trials, perform analysis, fine-tuning and manage rollout of successful parameter sets and feature configurations
* Troubleshoot radio network technical issues, define corrective measures and provide clear solutions to customers and stakeholders
* Monitor network performance (alarms, parameters, KPI dashboards), identify root causes and drive corrective & preventive actions (CAPA)
* Prepare clear documentation and technical reports (optimization proposals, test plans, trial reports, handover notes) and present findings to customers and project teams
* Collaborate with RF planners, network operations, drive test teams, vendor support and customer engineering teams to ensure timely delivery of improvements
* Support automation and tooling improvements for data analysis and KPI monitoring
Required Qualifications & Experience
* Minimum 10 years’ hands-on experience in radio planning & optimization for LTE and NR networks
* Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science or related field
* In-depth knowledge of LTE and NR radio technologies, mobility & handover tuning, coverage and capacity planning, and RF propagation fundamentals
* Proven experience in drive test/benchmark data analysis; familiarity with Umlaut Benchmark is preferred
* Strong analytical skills and experience with KPI analysis, root cause investigations and deriving optimization plans
* Customer-facing experience with good English communication skills; ability to understand customer requirements and explain technical solutions clearly
* Self-driven, proactive, target-oriented and able to lead optimization topics independently
Preferred / Nice-to-have
* Prior experience on European Huawei Benchmark optimization projects (Germany, Austria, Netherlands) is highly valued
* Previous work experience on Swiss projects is an advantage
* Familiarity with drive test and benchmarking tools (e.g., TEMS, Nemo, R&S, Spirent) and radio planning tools (Atoll, Planet, ICS-B)
* Experience with vendors’ network elements and fault diagnosis (eNodeB/gNodeB, core interactions)
* Knowledge of SON/MRO concepts and experience with KPI dashboards/monitoring tools
* Scripting/automation skills (Python, SQL) for data processing and reporting
* French language skills are a plus
Working conditions & expectations
* Office base in Zurich with regular field visits and drive tests across Switzerland; occasional travel within Europe may be required
* Hands-on role combining field verification and office-based analysis
