What you'll do
Join CERN’s CMS team and provide support on radiation protection matters while taking charge of simulations to evaluate the operation scenarios of the detectors and define the needed shielding. You will also participate in long shutdown activities as a key member of the field radiation protection team, and provide directions and support to the different teams involved in the process.
Your responsibilities
Support the CMS Technical Coordination (TC) Team in operational matters during shutdowns relating to radiation protection and optimisation of personnel dose
Contribute to feasibility studies and simulations for shielding options and upgrade planning, as relevant
Perform simulations of prompt radiation throughout detectors and cavern
Collaborate with HSE-Radio Protection on activation-scenario simulations, especially during shutdowns, to optimise ALARA planning
Your Profile
Knowledge of radiation protection, operational dosimetry, and safety planning;
Demonstrated experience in Monte Carlo radiation-transport simulations using FLUKA;
Experience in radiation measurements and benchmarking;
Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Physics, Engineering or a related field. RP qualification from a certified body would be a plus
Your Skills
Knowledge and application of ionising radiation
Simulation of radiation environments
Knowledge and application of instrumentation and measurement techniques
Knowledge of Radiation Safety and personal dosimetry
