In Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organization (pRED), we develop transformative medicines to address unmet healthcare needs. Our culture is built on curiosity, responsibility, and humility, empowering our talented people to innovate rapidly.
Within pRED, you will join the Roche Institute of Human Biology (IHB), which aims to advance human model systems in drug discovery, development, and personalized medicine. Our interdisciplinary team connects biologists, engineers, and data scientists, collaborating globally to tackle complex scientific challenges through innovative research initiatives.
Role Mission
In collaboration with the Neurosciences and Rare Disease (NRD) Discovery Translation Area, we seek a motivated scientist to work at the intersection of academic and translational research. The role involves developing patient-relevant human models that mimic Alzheimer’s disease protein aggregates, with the goal of establishing in vitro drug profiling technologies to support future NRD projects.
Your Impact
1. Develop a 3D co-culture model of the brain, including neurons and glia.
2. Establish imaging assays to assess glial function within these models.
3. Characterize cell lines with disease-relevant mutations thoroughly.
4. Design, execute, analyze, and interpret experiments independently.
5. Publish and present research findings at scientific forums.
Your Profile
* PhD in Bioengineering, Neuroscience, or related fields.
* Hands-on experience with stem-cell derived human brain cell models.
* Experience with hydrogel-based 3D culture models.
* Proficiency in developing imaging-based functional assays, including image analysis workflows.
* Knowledge of cellular mechanisms involved in Alzheimer’s disease pathology.
* Strong critical thinking, communication, organizational, and presentation skills.
* Ability to work effectively in a matrix environment, influencing and collaborating with experts.
* Motivated by scientific curiosity and a commitment to patient outcomes.
This is a temporary position for 2 years, reporting to Sonja Kleinlogel, NRD.
