About the role
Our client has created a new role to work closely with the investment team and management teams of its portfolio companies, driving value creation across a portfolio of mid-sized businesses.
Our client is a highly successful private equity firm focused on mid-sized companies and on fostering both organic and inorganic growth through buy-and-build strategies. The firm invests across a wide range of industries. The newly created role of Director of Operations is designed to drive tangible value creation by establishing robust structures and processes pre- and post-acquisition, both internally and across the portfolio companies.
What the job involves
• Portfolio-wide performance analysis, identification of under and overperformers, and derivation of key insights and lessons learned
• Comparison of actual performance against the original investment case and refinement of the equity story for each portfolio company
• Prioritisation of value creation initiatives based on impact, risk, and resource requirements
• Joint definition and implementation of value creation measures in close collaboration with the investment team and C-level management
• Professionalisation of key value levers, including sales, marketing, pricing, operational processes, systems (CRM, ERP, HR, finance), and cost optimisation
• Development of value creation agendas for new investments, including 100- and 365-day operational roadmaps
• Assessment of feasibility, resource requirements, and management capabilities
• Selection, coordination, and quality control of external consultants, interim managers, and specialist providers
• Establishment of KPI and milestone frameworks, regular performance reviews, and consistent reporting to the investment team and partners
• Selective hands-on support in critical initiatives (e.g. ERP implementations, PMI, carve-outs, pricing), including interim project leadership where required
• Development of playbooks, templates, and reusable standards to scale value creation across the portfolio
Who we are looking for
• A candidate with a minimum of 10 years' overall experience, combining a top-tier strategy consulting background with operational leadership experience in a DACH SME environment
• Operational experience, ideally within a private equity-backed company
• Proven track record in building structures and managing complex, cross-functional initiatives
• Strong analytical capabilities, including KPI tracking, ROI analysis, and business case development
• Confidence and credibility when working with C-level executives and managing multiple stakeholders
• A down-to-earth personality with a structured, resilient, and hands-on mindset, high quality standards, strong ownership, and a passion for building processes and driving sustainable value creation
• Fluent in German and English
• Willingness to travel
