Purpose
The Global Category Manager – Legal Services is responsible for developing and executing procurement strategies with third-party suppliers in support of Fresenius Medical Care’s One Procurement strategy. Responsible for category management, strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, contracting, and ongoing supplier management for the assigned category. Coordinates with Procurement Partner(s) and key stakeholders to ensure alignment of procurement strategies.
Main duties:
1. Drive, develop, and implement multi-year category and subcategory plans for Legal Services, including demand aggregation, defining buying channels, strategic relationship management, special projects, and supplier risk management;
2. Maintain knowledge of current trends, supplier capabilities, innovation, and changes within the technology and finance landscape;
3. Identify, develop, and lead/support opportunities to optimize spend, reduce costs, mitigate supply risks, improve services, bring innovation, and ensure supply;
4. Lead or support cross-functional supplier selection activities and manage formal strategic sourcing and RFx processes;
5. Perform proposal analysis, including price analyses, “Should Cost” modeling, benchmarking, and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO);
6. Develop negotiation strategies, including targets for costs and key commercial/business terms;
7. Collaborate with Legal and Finance stakeholders to draft and negotiate key legal and commercial terms;
8. Evaluate financial stability of suppliers and manage supplier risks as needed; actively manage key supplier relationships in collaboration with the VMO, including resolution of issues and disputes;
9. Build relationships and work closely with Procurement Business Partners, other Category Managers, and cross-functional teams to share and implement procurement strategies;
10. May include cross-regional people management responsibilities, including hiring, developing, and terminating employees;
11. Lead and participate in supplier business reviews; champion the use of eSourcing, Spend Visibility, and R2P tools within the category; leverage and utilize eAuctions where appropriate;
12. Act as an ambassador of Procurement and a champion for all Procurement policies, processes, and tools to ensure compliance;
13. Demonstrate the highest ethical standards and ensure Fresenius procedures are followed;
14. Drive the category management process to develop strategies that include diversity, sustainability, risk assessment, currency considerations, and overall continuity, aligned with business KPIs;
15. Possess knowledge of GPOs, medical distribution approaches, and clinical consumable acquisition best practices;
16. Partner with clinical stakeholders (e.g., nursing/physicians) on value-driven solutions where applicable.
Education:
* Bachelor’s Degree in Technical or Business field;
* MBA and/or CPSM/CPM preferred but not required.
Experience and qualifications:
* 7+ years of procurement, contract negotiation, and management experience;
* 1-3 years of experience with the latest procurement and contract management solutions;
* Strong leadership and effective business partnering skills – ability to influence without authority;
* Ability to handle ambiguity and make decisions with incomplete information;
* Experience with data analysis and interpretation; proficiency in Microsoft Office required;
* Strong negotiation, communication, and presentation skills;
* Robust knowledge of strategic sourcing and category management; international experience is a plus;
* Project management skills from planning to implementation;
* In-depth understanding of contract terms, including DPA, GDPR, ESG, etc.;
* Ability to adapt communication across diverse cultures and regions;
* Proven negotiation skills with strategic suppliers;
* Fluent in English (written and spoken); additional languages advantageous.

* Purchasing, Strategic Sourcing, Category Management, Bidding Processes;
* Financial concepts, Negotiation, Market Trends and Innovation;
* Procurement policies and procedures; understanding of total cost of ownership for efficiency and savings.
