Lindt & Sprüngli has had a longstanding commitment to zero accidents, and to ensure every employee goes home safe, every day. In the past year, we evaluated our global approach to health and safety management and concluded we want to make a step-change in our approach. To design, lead implementation and sustain this programme long-term, we are looking for a dedicated and experienced Health and Safety Manager .
This role reports to the Head of EHS, in the Operations department. Its purpose is to define a global Health and Safety Management System (H&S MS), and deeply embed this into our organisation. It will require both strong technical and behavioural safety skills, as well as extensive knowledge of how to engage and collaborate at all levels of the organisation.
REQUIREMENTS
You are responsible for the design and implementation of the entire programme and future approach, and are supported by various internal and external programme team members. Your knowledge is founded on industry best-practices, long-term frontline and corporate knowledge of health and safety management and you know how to drive organisational change.
Define and own the global health and safety management improvement roadmap
Drive our long-term journey to change our global safety culture
Evolve the programme from start-up to ‘business as usual’, and embed all relevant programmes to continuously improve our H&S performance (e.g. audit, incident investigation, performance monitoring, etc)
Continuously monitor and communicate about Group-wide H&S performance during programme design and implementation
Build and maintain a global network of diverse stakeholders, and work with this network to understand and integrate H&S practices and standards into a wide range of roles and responsibilities
Create and/or quality check various deliverables related to (technical) safety standards, performance management and target setting, and/or any other aspects of the to-be-created H&S MS
Maintain a clear overview of the progress, opportunities and risks of the programme, and communicate this to the H&S Steerco
Identify, assess and prioritise any external support efforts required to deliver our vision and programme
Provide qualitative and quantitative input for external reporting such as the Sustainability Report
Work closely with the Head of EHS to shape the strategic direction of the programme, preparing for impacts from either external (regulatory) developments, or internal improvement opportunities
Work closely with the EHS Reporting Manager to define H&S reporting / tool improvement opportunities or new requirements as the roadmap evolves
QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in a technical / science-based education, ideally supplemented by a formal Health- and Safety related education (e.g. MOSHE, NEBOSH, IOSH, etc)
Min. 10 years working experience in a frontline FMCG environment (factory-based preferred), and minimum 10 years of corporate experience related to global Health- and Safety-management processes. Total of minimum 20 years working experience
Expertise in one or multiple of any of the key risks listed: process safety, machine guarding, control of hazardous energy, engineering/machine safety, electrical safety, road safety, ergonomics, working at height/DROPS, incident investigation, contractor safety management, management of change, security and emergency response
In-depth familiarity with ISO 45001, including hands-on experience in its build-up, implementation, certification, and internal or external auditing
Deep knowledge of behavioural-based safety programmes, and experience in rolling those out effectively ultimately driving lasting change
Significant working experience in managing complex, multi-dimensional and global projects, with global stakeholder engagement and significant change management are a must
A qualification in project management is a plus
Ability to influence without formal authority
Very strong, clear and motivating communicator. Awareness of language barriers and ability to adapt messages to front-line up to C-Suite stakeholders
Fluency in English is a must, any additional language (particularly German, French, Italian) is a plus
Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work with both front-line staff and senior stakeholders and leaders, build rapport across functional boundaries as well as people of diverse backgrounds
Experience in working in a diverse, global, matrixed and/or strongly decentralised organisation
Awareness and openness to this role evolving over time, as the programme moves from a design and start up phase, to day-to day execution phase
