The Swiss Ornithological Institute Sempach is a non-profit foundation for ornithology and bird conservation. It monitors the native bird world, researches their way of life and campaigns for the endangered bird world. It cares for injured and orphaned birds, informs and advises the public and runs a visitor center in Sempach. The Ornithological Institute employs over 200 people in all parts of the country.At the heart of our work is the care center for injured and orphaned wild birds. We look after over 1,400 feathered patients there every year. Veterinary practice assistant (TPA) in bird care (60%)
Your tasks
-Care with heart and mindo You feed our feathered protégés according to individual nutrition plans. From nestlings to adult birds.o You clean and disinfect aviaries, cages and tools to ensure a healthy environment.-Working together for animal welfareo You assist the vets with medical treatments and take on tasks in aftercare.o You will closely monitor the health of the animals and use your instinct for animal behavior.o Assist in taking samples for research projects and for the early detection of animal diseases.-Teamwork at eye levelo You will support our animal keepers and accompany interns in their daily work.o You will help to ensure that the station runs smoothly, including at weekends and on public holidays.
Your profile
- Completed training as a veterinary practice assistant (TPA) or equivalent qualification.- You are willing to work weekends and public holidays.- Good oral and written German language skills (C1).- Experience in dealing with (wild) birds or great interest in familiarizing yourself with this area.- Ability to work under pressure, team spirit, a meticulous approach to work and not afraid of physical work.- Manual dexterity, fine motor skills and the ability to remain calm even in hectic situations.- A good understanding of biological and ecological relationships.- Category B driving license (an advantage).
