About the Role
We are seeking an exceptionally qualified and internationally experienced Chief Gemologist / Head of Gemstone Operations to lead and oversee all technical, commercial, and strategic aspects of our gemstone business. This is a senior leadership role requiring extensive expertise across the full gemstone value chain — from mining source evaluation and rough stone selection to laboratory authentication, quality grading, international sourcing, supplier negotiations, and high‑value gemstone trading. The successful candidate will serve as the principal authority on gemstone identification, valuation, procurement, and quality assurance while contributing directly to the long‑term growth and profitability of the company’s gemstone portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and supervise the professional identification, authentication, classification, and grading of precious and semi‑precious gemstones.
Evaluate gemstones based on color, clarity, cut, origin, treatment status, rarity, and market value.
Detect synthetic, treated, enhanced, and imitation stones using advanced gemological testing methods.
Review and approve gemological reports, certifications, and laboratory documentation.
Ensure strict compliance with international gemological standards and best practices.
Develop and manage a global network of gemstone suppliers, miners, dealers, cutters, and international trade partners.
Conduct direct sourcing and acquisition of rough and polished gemstones from key global markets.
Perform commercial negotiations, price assessments, and procurement decisions.
Identify strategic sourcing opportunities to maximize quality, supply continuity, and profitability.
Assess gemstone mines, exploration projects, and extraction sites for commercial viability and material quality.
Conduct on‑site evaluation of rough gemstone production.
Select and approve mine‑origin materials suitable for processing and trade.
Maintain direct working relationships with mining operators and source‑country suppliers.
Oversee gemstone laboratory procedures, testing protocols, and technical verification systems.
Implement and maintain SOPs for grading, authentication, and quality control.
Supervise gemological instruments, reporting systems, and technical documentation.
Establish best‑in‑class quality assurance standards throughout the organization.
Lead and mentor gemologists, quality controllers, buyers, and sourcing teams.
Provide technical training and performance supervision.
Support executive management in gemstone investment decisions, pricing strategies, and market positioning.
Contribute to the development of long‑term gemstone sourcing and trading strategies.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a highly accomplished gemstone professional with substantial international field experience, deep technical knowledge, and strong commercial acumen.
Professional Qualifications
Degree, diploma, or internationally recognized certification in Gemology.
Minimum 15–20 years of proven international experience in gemstone laboratories, gemstone trading houses, jewelry manufacturing, or mining environments.

Willingness to travel extensively for international sourcing and mine inspections.

Preferred International Exposure
Candidates with prior professional experience in major gemstone trading and sourcing hubs such as the United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, or similar international gemstone centers will be strongly preferred.
