MobyFly is a technology company designing and delivering premium, zero-emission hydrofoil boats for the fast ferry market. Our electric vessels are among the most energy-efficient forms of marine transportation — cutting energy costs by up to 80% and operational costs by 60% compared to traditional diesel ferries.
By leveraging the natural infrastructure of rivers, lakes, and coastal waterways, MobyFly offers a scalable, sustainable mass transit solution. Our mission: transform waterway transportation — for operators, municipalities, and passengers — while dramatically reducing environmental impact.
ROLE DESCRIPTION As we define the next generation of MobyFly hydrofoils, we need to model energy consumption with precision — to optimise both vessel design and real-world operations. This is where you come in.
As our Energy Modelling Intern, you will:
Conduct a state-of-the‑art review on energy modelling for electric vessels.
Develop and validate a simulation model of energy consumption — covering mission profiles, environmental conditions, and payload — for our next‑generation Mbfy‑M hydrofoil.
Correlate simulations against real operational telemetry data, starting with the Mbfy‑10 and extending to the Mbfy‑S once available.
Benchmark our model against a comparable electric displacement vessel to quantify the hydrofoil efficiency advantage.
This role sits at the intersection of naval architecture, electrical engineering, and data science — a rare opportunity to contribute directly to the advancement of zero‑emission marine transportation.
WHAT YOU WILL DELIVER Month 1 — State‑of‑the‑art review report (PDF)
Month 5 — Model v2 with results visualisation tool
Month 6 — Final report and oral presentation
