* Position Type: Maintenance/Custodial/ Maintenance General
* High school diploma or GED required. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in general building maintenance, facilities operations, or a related trade preferred
* Vocational or technical training in maintenance or a skilled trade desirable. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Knowledge of general building maintenance practices including carpentry, plumbing, painting, roof drain/gutter cleaning and basic HVAC
* Knowledge use of grounds equipment such as ride-on movers, push movers, string trimmer, stripe painting machine, rake, hedge trimmer, snow shovel, snow thrower and plow truck with salt spreader
* Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely
* Ability to read and follow work orders, instructions, manuals, and safety procedures
* Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safe work practices
* Ability to prioritize tasks and respond to emergency maintenance needs
* Strong problem‑solving, communication, and organizational skills

* Maintain school buildings and grounds in a safe, clean and functional condition
* Perform assigned duties in a professional, reliable, and timely manner
* Follow all district policies, procedures, and safety regulations
* Work cooperatively with administrators, custodians, staff, contractors, and vendors
* Demonstrates positive attitude, strong work ethic, professionalism, and respectful interactions with the school community
Performance Responsibilities
* Perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair work in school buildings and facilities
* Inspect buildings and grounds to identify maintenance and safety issues
* Respond to routine and emergency maintenance requests
* Repair or replace doors, locks, windows, fixtures, flooring, ceilings, and equipment
* Assist with preventive maintenance programs for buildings and mechanical systems
* Perform minor grounds maintenance, including snow and ice removal as required
* Transport furniture and equipment for school activities and dump run
* Maintain records of work performed and materials used
* Contact vendors for price/quotes for parts/equipment as needed
* Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, Connecticut State Building Code, fire safety regulations, and district policies
Additional Responsibilities
* Perform other work duties as assigned by the Facilities Department
Job Requirements
* Physical Requirements - Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to fifty (50) pounds; ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces; ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
* Certificates, Licenses, Registrations - Valid Connecticut driver's license as required by the district; Successful completion of Connecticut State Department of Education background check and fingerprinting
Terms of Employment
* This is an at‑will twelve (12) month, forty (40) hours a week, full‑time employment position, salary and benefits consistent with the district compensation plan
* Maintain flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by district needs
* Mandatory snow removal
