Job Title: First Language Tutor
About the Role
The International School of Zug and Luzern (ISZL) seeks a qualified First Language tutor to cultivate a passion for inquiry among students and work collaboratively with ISZL teachers and First Language Programme supervisors to develop engaging and inspirational learning experiences.
Responsibilities
* Cultivate a learning environment that values students as key drivers of their learning.
* Use various teaching strategies and resources to create learning experiences with multiple access points and opportunities for students to apply their understanding in meaningful ways.
* Schedule lessons according to the ISZL school calendar, whenever possible.
* Design learning that enables students to effectively manage emotional well-being, motivation, and cognition as vital aspects of learning.
* Encourage students to inquire into diverse viewpoints, address misconceptions, and solve problems together in respectful, equitable ways.
* Foster communication skills and, as appropriate, develop academic language.
* Provide regular formative and summative feedback to students, parents, and the FLP supervisor, including FLP student progress reports (four times per year).
* Participate in department meetings and professional training opportunities.
* Prepare lessons, mark student work, and complete necessary communication outside specified tutorial hours to a reasonable degree.
* Commit to teaching DP examination students for the full duration of their DP course.
* Support DP students with tasks related to their program.
* Liaise with parents, if required, and collaborate with the FLP supervisor.
Requirements
* A recognised teaching qualification and/or language tutoring certification.
* Experience of teaching literature is preferred.
* Good IT skills and experience teaching online are desirable.
* A working level of English is required.
* Experience with or interest in International Baccalaureate Education and Inquiry-Based Learning.
Compensation
Compensation will be commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.
