Are you an expert in Data Acquisition Development and Particle Detectors? This is an opportunity to work in a mission‑critical team providing real‑time luminosity measurements for the upgrade of the CMS Detector. This system directly impacts the operation of the future High Luminosity LHC and the quality of many physics measurements, performed in CMS.
Your responsibilities
* Firmware development on FPGA backend boards.
* Lab testing and validation of backend electronics and frontend detectors.
* Finalise, test, and validate the firmware architecture for the tracker luminosity systems, online clustering for Inner Tracker, stub counting for the Outer Tracker, and BRIL Trigger Board for BRIL trigger generation.
* Develop, test, and finalise, the firmware for the FBCM backend system.
* Complete the development of the final BRIL replica testing system, which will reproduce the Phase 2 backend system.
* Develop, coordinate, and test the software interface and control of the BRIL Phase 2 backend system.
Your profile
* Experience in the field of applied physics, detector testing and DAQ is critical.
* Direct experience with real‑time systems (FPGA, micro‑controllers, system‑on‑chip, etc.) is highly valued.
* Experience in detector laboratories, electronics, prototyping and test beam is also valued.
Skills
* Teamwork.
* C/C++ and/or Python.
* Some knowledge of VHDL and/or other HDL.
* Ability to use standard lab tools such as scope/generators/NIM modules/detectors, etc.
* Understanding of electronics.
* Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.
Eligibility criteria
* You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
* You have a professional background in Electronics engineering/applied physics (or a related field) and have either:
o Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post‑graduation professional experience;
o or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post‑graduation professional experience.
* You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
