PSI employs about 2,300 people and trains a large proportion of its staff in post‑doctoral and apprenticeship roles.
Within the Center for Photon Science’s Insertion Devices Group, we are seeking a Scientist (Tenure Track) to support beamline scientists, design advanced undulators, and conduct simulation and measurement work on both existing and future insertion devices.
Responsibilities
* Support beamline scientists in the operation and optimization of undulator‑based light sources at both SLS and SwissFEL, including advanced modes such as Echo‑Enabled Harmonic Generation (EEHG).
* Contribute to the design of short‑period, advanced variable‑polarization undulators for upcoming SwissFEL and SLS beamline upgrades.
* Perform simulation studies of both magnetic systems and photon output for current and future insertion devices.
* Conduct magnetic measurements of insertion devices and manage associated electronics and calibration.
Qualifications
* PhD in Physics or Electrical Engineering.
* Substantial experience working at a user‑oriented light source facility.
* Experience with advanced electromagnetic simulations involving technical superconductors (e.g., magnetization currents) is an advantage.
* Strong organizational and project management skills.
* Excellent communication skills in English; German is a plus.
