About The Role
As a Data Architect, you will design an efficient, elegant, and high-performance data architecture and flow of data through the systems supporting our scientific data products. You will collaborate closely with product management, data engineering, business analysis, user experience, data science, and security teams to realize our product vision. Your goal will be to create a secure, compliant, performant, and sustainable data landscape critical for democratizing access to BR’s data.
Major Responsibilities
* Design enterprise-quality data architecture for our products
* Update designs based on agile team learnings
* Consider impact on BR- and Novartis-wide data ecosystems
* Define and drive solutions for smooth data flow and connectivity across scientific domains
* Promote adoption of best practices in product teams
* Design, implement, and maintain security and infrastructure requirements
* Collaborate with Architecture and Operations teams to ensure timely delivery
* Lead architectural improvements and standardization efforts
* Develop automated processes for deploying solutions
* Ensure controls for configuration management and change authorization
* Create detailed solution designs to meet quality and performance standards
Major Accountabilities
The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in data architecture and experience with scientific data types relevant to drug discovery, including biology, chemistry, and clinical data. Skills in process change management and aligning scientific teams with data strategies are essential.
The Skills and Capabilities Required
* Expertise in data architecture, engineering, or software engineering
* Strong knowledge in at least two of BR’s core data areas (biology, chemistry/chemical biology, clinical)
* Experience supporting standard IT products in scientific data domains
* Proven ability to architect solutions enabling laboratory data workflows globally
* Ability to balance corporate and departmental priorities
* Understanding of a digital journey in a global context
* Strong drive for data consistency and stakeholder management
* Excellent communication skills
* Experience operating at the research and R&D interface
* Proven initiatives that enhance organizational effectiveness
* Experience with agile development and linked data technologies
Essential Requirements
* Master’s degree or equivalent
* At least 10 years in data architecture, engineering, or software engineering
* Over 5 years supporting scientific or drug discovery data
* Experience managing scientific data and metadata
* Knowledge of agile processes
* Experience with distributed data systems, ontologies, RDF, and cloud platforms (AWS, Google, Azure)
* Proficiency in English
Desirable
* Experience with Graph databases
