Today MSC is looking for a Legal Counsel to expand its Sanctions Compliance Team.
THE ROLE
Sanctions and export control regulations are increasingly prevalent due to various geopolitical challenges. National governments and international organizations impose trade restrictions to achieve foreign policy goals and national security objectives, such as preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD), addressing human rights abuses, combating drug trafficking, countering terrorist activities, or encouraging behavioral changes in sanctioned entities.
These sanctions and export controls significantly impact international trade. As Legal Counsel in the Sanctions Compliance team, you will assist the MSC Cargo Division in navigating these complex regulatory frameworks that are continually evolving and reshaping global commerce.
YOUR IMPACT
As Legal Counsel, Compliance Sanctions you will :
Draft, implement and revise policies and procedures to ensure the MSC Cargo Division remains compliant with sanctions and export control regulations and best practices.
Perform due diligence screenings and provide legal advice on daily transactions and queries from MSC Cargo Division stakeholders worldwide, ensuring all sanctions compliance measures are met according to applicable regulations.
Provide online and onsite training to MSC Cargo Division colleagues worldwide.
Follow up on sanctions and export control regulations issued by relevant authorities, including but not limited to SECO, the EU Council, OFAC, BIS, and OFSI.
Assist in drafting license applications and other communications to sanctions or export control authorities as necessary.
Participate in deploying and utilizing internal screening tools effectively for daily due diligence tasks.
YOUR BACKGROUND
University degree in law from an accredited university.
Relevant sanctions and export control experience.
Experience in the shipping industry or maritime sector is a plus.
Fluency in English, both written and spoken; knowledge of another major language is an asset.
Strong organizational skills
Ability to work under pressure and communicate persuasively at all levels, including with compliance management, customers, suppliers, and business partners, both in writing and orally.
Team player willing to learn and grow professionally in the sanctions and export control field within the shipping industry.
Contract Details
Based in Geneva.
Full-time, permanent role.
Starting ASAP.
EU citizenship or valid Swiss work permit is required.
