Senior Systems Administrator

Job Summary

B&A is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to provide expert leadership in the operation, maintenance, and optimization of enterprise IT infrastructure. This role is critical to ensuring the stability, reliability, and performance of software systems and network connections across multiple locations. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing complex IT environments, with deep technical knowledge in systems architecture, automation, and application networking.

This individual will also lead and mentor a team of system administrators, ensuring operational excellence, continuity, and alignment with evolving organizational goals.

Responsibilities


* Plan, install, configure, and maintain software systems, network services, and enterprise applications.
* Monitor and optimize system performance, capacity, and reliability using automation and performance tuning tools.
* Troubleshoot and resolve end-user software and network connectivity issues in both local and remote environments.
* Analyze system requirements and recommend enhancements, upgrades, or replacements to meet capacity and security standards.
* Implement and maintain enterprise vulnerability management practices.
* Create and maintain system administration procedures, workflows, and documentation.
* Provide training and mentorship to system administrators and end-users on tools, processes, and systems.
* Ensure fault tolerance and application load balancing across complex, distributed systems.
* Provide support for patching, upgrades, and new deployments of servers and applications.
* Coordinate and manage privileged user access in compliance with DoD cybersecurity policies.
* Align technology implementations with the strategic vision and operational needs of the organization.
* Lead system administration operations across multiple environments and geographic locations.

Education And Experience

* Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in a technical discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering).
* Minimum of 10 years of specialized experience in Information Processing.
* At least 4 years of hands-on experience in installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of software and systems.

Required Skills

* Must meet DoD 8570 IAT Level I certification requirements (e.g., A+ CE, Network+ CE, SSCP).
* Strong experience with system automation, scripting (PowerShell, Bash, etc.), and configuration management tools.
* Proficient in application networking, load balancing, and ensuring fault tolerance.
* Knowledge of enterprise OS platforms (Windows Server, Linux), virtualization, and system monitoring.
* Experience supporting multi-site environments with remote and on-site maintenance capabilities.

Desired Skills

* Experience with DoD IT systems, including compliance with security frameworks such as STIGs and RMF.
* Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or DoD Cloud environments) and hybrid infrastructure integration.
* Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices in support of system administration tasks.
* Familiarity with IT service management frameworks such as ITIL.
* Experience with enterprise patch management, backup and disaster recovery systems.
* Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to direct junior administrators and interface with stakeholders.

Security Clearance

* Must hold an active Secret Clearance.
