R&D Senior Engineer (Internship)
Internship Overview
ABB Corporate Research, in close collaboration with its business areas, develops the foundations for the next generation of ABB products. We offer a motivated student a six-month internship within the Sensing and Analytics group. During the internship you will work on a system for marine and port automation, focusing on machine learning algorithms with synthetic and real‑world sensor data.
Responsibilities
* Exploration of current challenges in marine or ports via direct interaction with ABB R&D units
* Review of academic literature
* Design, evaluation and documentation of potential solutions
* Quick prototyping of solutions through proof‑of‑concept implementations
Qualifications
* Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology or a similar field; enrollment in the 5th semester or higher is essential
* Interest in data analytics, machine learning or computer vision
* Experience with Python and PyTorch is required; experience with ROS2 and/or LiDAR is a plus
* Proficiency in English
* Willingness to learn and adapt quickly to new research topics
* Self‑motivation and hands‑on attitude
* Ability to think conceptually and express ideas clearly and convincingly
* Availability for six months (start and end dates are open for discussion)
