Your responsibilities

The Radiation Protection (RP) Group of the Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental Protection (HSE) Unit ensures that personnel on the CERN sites and the public are protected from potentially harmful effects of ionizing radiation linked to CERN activities. The duties of CERN's Radiation Protection Group include the assessment of radiation hazards from operating accelerators and experiments, the definition of protective measures as well as the legally required monitoring of the exposure of radiation workers and public to ionising radiation.

You would join the HSE-RP-AS (Accelerators & Sites) section who is in charge of all radiation protection aspects related to the design and operation of accelerators and experimental areas at CERN. This role would primarily be based at the Prévessin Site and includes the four Large Experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), namely ATLAS, CMS, LHCb and ALICE.

This position offers a unique chance to develop hands-on expertise in operational radiation protection. Through close involvement in field operations and planning, you will become proficient with radiation monitoring instruments, radiological risk assessments, and the practical application of the ALARA ("As Low As Reasonably Achievable") principle.

Your operational responsibilities will include:

* Support the team activities by performing radiation survey measurements.
* Become familiar with and apply CERN's computer tools.
* Support the team in handling and managing radioactive material.
* Take part in the ALARA preparation and follow-up of activities in Radiation Areas.
* Conduct measurements and radiation protection follow-up in preparation and during the Long-Shutdown 3.
* Document results in detailed reports, technical notes, and other written documents.
* Engage with interdisciplinary teams across CERN to support safe and efficient operations in radiation areas.
