The Synopsis Of The Role
This Life/Annuity carrier has a long history and was recently capitalized by private equity/a large asset manager. Given the number of changes within the insurance/investments space (i.e. the NAIC Bond project), the move towards investments outside of traditional fixed income and the increased interaction between the insurance executive team and the private equity investors, there's a need for a strong Accounting Policy professional who can speak the language of insurance to the private equity investors and who can speak the language of investments when communicating to the insurance finance team. So, a skill set around: Accounting Policy; Investments; GAAP/STAT and an ability to drive good accounting policy into the fabric of the finance organization is needed for a role that will be highly visible with both insurance executive team as well as with the private equity/asset management teams. Good foundational role that will lead to other opportunities within this carrier and within the industry itself. CPA or CFA backed up with public accounting experience is needed on this one.

The Assistant Vice President, Accounting Policy and Investments leads technical research, analysis, and documentation for the investment portfolio and financial instruments, requiring expertise in accounting research, technical writing, and U.S. GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles (STAT) as applied to various investment structures. Preferred candidates will have insurance industry experience and collaborate with senior leadership and cross-functional teams, including Financial Reporting, Corporate Accounting, Actuarial, Legal, and Investments, to implement new accounting standards and address complex transactions. The role also serves as a liaison with internal and external auditors to resolve technical accounting issues and navigate regulatory changes.
The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in investments and technical accounting research and writing and should excel in engaging with senior leadership, confidently articulating research and insights. While this role currently has no direct reports, it offers leadership opportunities through cross-team collaboration, spearheading special projects, and presenting findings to senior management.
