Director EH&S – IM SchaffhausenJohnson & Johnson, a global health solutions leader, seeks a Director of Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) for its IM Schaffhausen site. The role oversees and manages all EH&S activities across the site and surrounding network, ensuring regulatory compliance, risk reduction, and a strong safety culture.Key ResponsibilitiesRepresent EH&S with internal stakeholders (GET/Engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, facilities, etc.) and external bodies, advancing site and enterprise objectives.Develop and implement site EH&S business strategies, aligning them with enterprise goals, managing budgets, and driving continuous improvement.Lead and coach the EH&S team, setting performance objectives, conducting reviews, and contributing to succession and compensation decisions.Own the design, deployment, and continuous improvement of EH&S management systems, procedures and best practices across controlled sites.Chair and facilitate EH&S committees and cross‑functional teams to ensure effective program implementation and engagement.Lead hazard and risk management activities, including change‑management processes, CAPA governance, and root‑cause analysis of incidents and near‑misses.Maintain local ISO and program certification, ensuring audit readiness.Execute the global audit program, lead participation in system and technical audits, and verify corrective action closures.Own the site Emergency Response Plan, conduct drills, and serve as Incident Commander / Plant Emergency Officer during crises.Drive deployment of enterprise and platform initiatives at site level and participate in site leadership team decision‑making.Oversee compliance with new legislation and emerging EH&S issues, ensuring cost‑competitive adherence.Develop and implement site training strategy covering regulatory and operational risks for all relevant audiences.Manage EH&S aspects of external manufacturers, suppliers, and contractor programs in collaboration with procurement and operations.Required QualificationsUniversity or bachelor’s degree.10–15 years of experience in a leadership and management‑systems role within EH&S.Technical knowledge in air, water, hazardous/medical waste, machine safety, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, and chemical handling.Experience in project‑management and knowledge of relevant legislative requirements.RSPP certified.Strong communication skills (verbal and written) in English.Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with J&J EH&S data tools such as CURVE.Ability to influence senior business leaders and negotiate in a matrix environment.Experience managing budgets and CAPEX, with proven results in safety performance improvement.Enthusiastic, positive attitude and ability to inspire high performance.Preferred QualificationsMaster’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Engineering or related EH&S discipline.Experience with EH&S in pharmaceutical R&D or medical‑device R&D.Proficiency in CAPA, EHS compliance, emergency planning, facility management, risk management, and safety‑oriented decision making.Experience with EHS data and data‑management systems.Leadership experience in inclusive and diverse teams.Additional InformationTravel: up to 20% of time for domestic or international trips.People management experience: Yes.Required people‑management experience: 8–10 years.
