Job Description
Position Title: School Safety and Security Coordinator
Reports To: Superintendent (or Assistant Superintendent / Director of Operations, as applicable)
FLSA Status: Exempt / Full-Time
Salary Range: $40,000 – $50,000 (commensurate with experience and qualifications)
The safety and security of students, staff, and visitors remain a top priority for the district. Increased demands for comprehensive security planning, threat assessment, and emergency response coordination require dedicated leadership at the district level.

Responsibilities
* Provide direct oversight of all district security personnel to ensure consistent standards and accountability.
* Serve as a working supervisor, performing security duties as needed to maintain adequate coverage.
* Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety and security programs for all campuses and facilities.
* Coordinate with law enforcement, first responders, and emergency management to enhance the district’s preparedness and response capabilities.
* Ensure compliance with state and federal safety regulations, maintain documentation for required drills andaudits, and provide regular reports to district leadership and the Board of Education.
* Provide security coverage and planning for after-school activities and district events occurring outside of regular instructional hours.
Approval of this position will strengthen the district’s ability to proactively identify risks, respond to security concerns, and protect students and staff, ensuring that a single point of leadership is responsible for all safety and security operations.
Position Summary
The School Safety and Security Coordinator is responsible for district-wide planning, implementation, and oversight of safety and security programs. This individual serves as the primary advisor to district leadership regarding security protocols, emergency preparedness, and crisis management. The Coordinator directly supervises all district security personnel, serves as a working supervisor, and may fill in for security staff when necessary to ensure full coverage for both regular school hours and after-school events.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Planning and Program Development
* Design, implement, and maintain a comprehensive district safety and security
* Conduct ongoing risk and vulnerability assessments to identify potential
* Update and maintain emergency operations plans, lockdown procedures, and crisis response protocols.
Coordination and Communication
* Serve as the district’s liaison to local law enforcement, fire, and emergency management
* Coordinate required safety drills and ensure compliance with state and federal
* Prepare regular safety updates and recommendations for the Superintendent and Board of Education.
Supervision and Leadership
* Directly supervise and evaluate Certified School Security Officers (CSSOs), School Resource Officers (SROs), and all district security staff.
* Establish consistent procedures, duty assignments, and performance expectations for security personnel.
* Serve as a working supervisor, performing security officer duties as needed to maintain adequate coverage.
* Ensure adequate security coverage during regular school hours as well as for after-school activities and district events.
Training and Professional Development
* Develop and deliver training on security procedures, situational awareness, and emergency response for district staff and students.
* Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for security team
Incident Management and Response
* Lead and coordinate district response to security incidents, including investigations, documentation, and post-incident analysis.
* Collaborate with building administrators and student services staff on threat assessments and intervention strategies.
Compliance and Documentation
* Maintain accurate records of safety drills, training sessions, audits, and incident
* Ensure full compliance with district policies, state and federal regulations, and best practices for school safety.
Education and Experience:
* Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, Emergency Management, Education Administration, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
* Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience in school safety, law enforcement, emergency management, or related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Comprehensive knowledge of best practices in school safety, threat assessment, and crisis intervention.
* Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making
* Excellent communication skills for interaction with staff, students, parents, and community agencies.
* Proficiency with security technologies (cameras, access control, two-way radios) and familiarity with incident management systems.
Working Conditions
* Work performed in both office and school environments with frequent travel between district facilities.
* Availability to respond to emergencies and provide oversight during after-school activities, evenings, and weekends.
* May involve occasional exposure to hazardous or high-stress situations during emergency responses.
* Must be willing to perform security officer duties when staffing needs
Evaluation
The School Safety and Security Coordinator will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent (or designee) according to district policy and performance objectives.
