Multi Trade Technician III – Electrician – AgriTech
Location: Buildings and Properties Department on the Cornell AgriTech Campus in Geneva, NY. Full‑time, 97.5% FTE. Hourly pay $25.09–$27.73.
Responsibilities
Install, diagnose, repair, modify, and maintain electrical equipment and systems for the AgriTech Experiment Station; recommend repair or replacement strategies; read, interpret and communicate using blueprints, technical drawings, project documents.
Independently troubleshoot complex systems, plan and execute installations start to finish.
Provide leadership and expertise on complex jobs in the field, help others develop skills and expertise.
Identify parts and supplies needed, work with Electrician lead to plan and procure.
Maintain fire alarms, exhaust fans, air handling units, motor controls, building controls, substation batteries, lighting systems, transformers, electrical system components and other systems.
Custom installations, renovations and relocations; troubleshoot and repair scientific equipment.
Assist with custodial, warehouse, utility plant, grounds, and other trade shops as required.
Learn and follow safety and work environment regulations and procedures (ARC flash prevention, lead, asbestos, fall protection, confined space).
Acquire and maintain licenses and/or special knowledge to maintain specialized equipment as required.
Set up and tear down for special events as requested.
Retrieve work order data, and enter material, labor, and work log data into Maximo daily with accuracy.
Maintain hand tools and diagnostic equipment needed to perform job duties.
General Requirements
High School diploma.
Valid driver license and background checks.
Computer proficiency for communications, time entry, scheduling, research & online training.
Confidential and sensitive information handling, multitasking, communication, feedback, prioritization, and time‑management skills.
Highly motivated, with innovation, good judgment, and reliability.
Teamwork, service orientation, clear written and verbal communication, initiative, and adaptability.
Comfortable and safe on stepladders, extension ladders, and aerial work platforms.
OSHA lockout/tag‑out and related safety procedures knowledge.
24‑hour emergency availability as needed.
Experience modeling inclusion, belonging, and wellbeing.
Electrical Trade Requirements
Electrical Trade School or Union certification.
Experience as an electrician in a maintenance facility.
Efficient in installing EMT and rigid conduit; motor control troubleshooting and design.
Load calculations: wire sizes, conduct fill, breaker sizes, branch circuits.
Estimating all aspects of electrical field.
5–7 years commercial electrical work experience; strong knowledge of NEC and project documentation.
Inspection of crawl spaces, attics, laboratories, mechanical rooms, shafts, sub-basements, and confined, isolated areas.
Preferred Additional Skills
Refrigeration and mechanical experience; troubleshooting and coordinating repairs to refrigeration and air‑conditioning systems.
At least 5 years of experience in refrigeration or related field.
Certified Universal Technician per 40CFR Part 82 Subpart F.
