Result of Service

Master’s Level Degree related to environmental policy, environmental management, international affairs, or equivalent.
At least 5 years working experience with relevant work experience on environment and climate and disaster management issues is required.
Experience in undertaking multi-stakeholder consultations, including engagement with stakeholders from the Global South, is required.
Experience in convening and coordinating partnerships in the field of environmental policy, environmental management or equivalent is required.
Experience in facilitation of online and/or in-person workshops and training sessions is desirable.
Experience in establishing and managing online knowledge management platforms, including for publishing and disseminating training materials, is desirable.

Special Knowledge & Skills

Experience in supporting project data analytics, documentation, monitoring, and reporting is desirable.
Strong communication skills including experience in giving presentations.
Ability to work in an integrated team.
Experience working with international development organizations and multilateral entities.

Work Location
6 months - Sept 2025 - Feb 2026
Expected Duration
Partnership management and multi-stakeholder facilitation to support project implementation in EfD partner countries under the UNEP-Norway EfD collaboration, specifically related to capacity building and training course development and dissemination.
Duties and Responsibilities
Home-based
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the environmental agenda, promotes sustainable development, and advocates for the environment. UNEP’s Disasters and Conflicts Branch works to reduce environmental causes and consequences of disasters and conflicts, promoting environmental security and resilience. UNEP supports countries in strengthening legal, policy, and institutional frameworks and builds capacity to address environmental dimensions of crises. In collaboration with Norway’s Energy for Development Knowledge Programme, UNEP aims to strengthen environmental governance and reduce climate and disaster risks in EfD partner countries, including Mozambique, Malawi, Nepal, Uganda, Tanzania, and Nigeria. This project focuses on developing training courses and disseminating knowledge related to environmental mainstreaming and due diligence in renewable energy development. The project aims to enhance environmental governance and management capacities, providing technical advisory and capacity development support to improve legal and policy frameworks, assess impacts, and manage risks associated with energy transition and renewable energy. Key activities include legal and policy reviews, capacity assessments, training development and delivery, and technical assistance. The project targets government institutions to improve environmental due diligence, reduce ecosystem degradation, and strengthen resilience.
The international consultant will support partnership development, training course coordination, and dissemination efforts in EfD partner countries, especially in Malawi, and develop a concept note for UNEP’s global training library.
Qualifications / Special Skills
Fluency in English is required; knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
