Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced
Barge Broker
with an
existing book of business
and a proven network in the European inland waterway market.
You will act as a key link between charterers and vessel owners, ensuring optimal capacity, rates, and reliability across Aare's transport network,
while supported by Aare's experienced administrative, finance, and operations teams.
Key Responsibilities
Source and fix barge transport for petroleum and chemical products in Europe.
Negotiate freight rates and charter terms with barge owners and operators.
Maintain and expand relationships with barge companies, terminals, and carriers.
Monitor market trends, freight indices, and supply-demand dynamics.
Support logistics planning, coordination, and contract execution.
Provide market intelligence to internal teams and clients.
Requirements
Experience in barge brokerage, inland shipping, and energy logistics.
Established client portfolio ("book of business")
within the European barge market.
Knowledge of European inland waterways and related market players.
Strong negotiation and communication skills.
Proactive, organized, and detail-oriented mindset.
Fluent in English; German, Dutch, or French is a plus.
Understanding of petroleum/chemical cargoes is a strong advantage.
