Today MSC is looking for a Legal Counsel to expand its Sanctions Compliance Team.
THE ROLE
Sanctions and export control regulations are increasingly prevalent due to various geopolitical challenges. National governments and international organizations impose trade restrictions to achieve foreign policy goals and national security objectives, such as preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD), addressing human rights abuses, combating drug trafficking, countering terrorist activities, or encouraging behavioral changes in sanctioned entities.
These sanctions and export controls significantly impact international trade. As Legal Counsel in the Sanctions Compliance team, you will assist the MSC Cargo Division in navigating these complex regulatory frameworks that are continually evolving and reshaping global commerce.
YOUR IMPACT
As Legal Counsel, Compliance Sanctions you will:
1. Draft, implement and revise policies and procedures to ensure the MSC Cargo Divisionremainscompliant with sanctions and export control regulations and best practices.
2. Perform due diligence screenings and provide legal advice ondaily transactions and queries from MSC Cargo Division stakeholders worldwide, as well as to monitor and control that all the sanctions compliance structure worldwide are done in compliance with applicable sanctions and export controls regulations.
3. Provide online and onsite training to MSC Cargo Division colleagues worldwide.
4. Follow up sanctions and export control regulations and interact issued by relevant authorities, including but not limited to State Secretariat of Economic Affairs (SECO), the EU Council, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) and the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI).
5. Assist on the drafting of license applications and other communications to sanctions or export control authorities whenever necessary.
6. Participate in the strategic deployment of internal screening tools and use them adequately as a source of relevant information in your daily due diligence tasks.
YOUR BACKGROUND
7. University degree in law from an accredited university.
8. Relevant sanctions and export control experience.
9. Experience in the shipping industry or maritime sector is a plus.
10. Good fluencyof English, both written and spoken – knowledge of another major language is an asset.
11. You have strongorganizationalskills
12. Ability to work under pressure and communicate/persuade others at all levels, including the company’s
13. Compliance management, customers, suppliers, or business partners, whether in writing or orally, individually or to a large audience.
14. Team player ready to enjoy being part of a multicultural team and open to learn and evolve as a professional on the sanctions and export control field in the shipping industry.
