The LNG Crew Officer Specialist is part of the onboard MSC Cruises Crew as First Engine Officer. They are responsible for operating the entire LNG system and related gas auxiliary systems. The LNG Crew Officer Specialist acts as the top advisor to the Chief Engineer on all matters related to gas use, including environmental impacts and LNG bunkering. With deep knowledge of relevant rules, documents, risk analyses, and drawings related to LNG and gas use onboard, the specialist is personally responsible for the gas detection system, testing, and maintenance. Additionally, this position serves as the principal advisor and approver for maintenance operations on LNG and gas systems during dry-dock or at sea, especially when LNG or gas safety-sensitive areas are involved.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
* Ensure operation, maintenance, and repair of LNG systems and related ancillaries (Compressors, Nitrogen generators, GCU, Glycol system, GVU, etc.) onboard LNG-fueled MSC Cruises ships.
* Liaise with the LNG Superintendent to ensure the operability of the LNG system and adherence to company instructions (MSC Procedures, SMS, etc.).
* Explain LNG system instructions and procedures to crew members and act as an LNG Trainer if required.
* Be available to operate at any time onboard, even outside regular shifts, to address issues related to the LNG system or gas safety matters. Maintain accessible and instant reporting of the LNG system status in their cabin.
* Maintain a comprehensive record of the LNG system history for detailed analysis of any events.
* Manage LNG bunkering, invert, gas freeing, tanks warming, and aerating operations.
* Fluent in English; knowledge of Italian is a plus.
* Possess at least 2 years of experience in LNG-fueled vessel construction, or 3 years of LNG/LPG tanker or offshore yard experience, or 5 years as First Engine Officer in MSC.
* Hold an advanced STCW certificate for gas-fueled vessels.
* Have thorough knowledge of LNG bunkering procedures for MSC LNG cruise ships.
* Possess knowledge of risk analysis methodologies.
* Have exhaustive knowledge of LNG-related documentation and regulations for gas-fueled ships.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and basic CAD skills.
* Be available to work long hours, under pressure, and overtime when required.
