We are seeking an experienced French commercial lawyer (Avocat) to join the Practical Law team, where you will create and maintain insightful, customer‑focused legal content and support the development of Thomson Reuters’ AI‑powered legal solutions.
Responsibilities
* Research, write and maintain clear, current, and practical legal content that aligns with market practice, customer needs and business objectives.
* Review and edit content written by colleagues or external expert contributors.
* Keep up‑to‑date with legal, practice and market developments to ensure content remains accurate, relevant and aligned with business objectives.
* Use your legal expertise to support the development of customer‑focused AI‑powered legal solutions.
* Support the development and application of internal AI editorial tools using your editorial skills.
* Develop and maintain an excellent understanding of the legal market, customers, emerging needs and competitors, by:
o interacting effectively with customers, consultation boards and contributors;
o working with all parts of the business to deliver insights into business strategy, product, sales, marketing and technology development;
o attending training events, conferences and talks and networking with customers, potential customers and industry leaders;
o helping develop Practical Law France and Practical Law more broadly;
o providing specialist legal knowledge to the wider Thomson Reuters team across product management, sales, marketing and technology functions.
Qualifications
* French qualified lawyer (Avocat) with at least 5years post‑qualification experience in commercial law in France.
* Substantial experience of French commercial law and advising on commercial matters.
* Excellent writing and communication skills in English; a passion for writing about legal practice accurately, concisely and in plain English.
* Collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently and within teams.
* Strong technical skills and ability to use various tools, including generative AI technologies, to enhance productivity and accuracy.
* Adaptability, flexibility and curiosity about the intersection of AI and legal practice.
* Experience using AI tools in legal work.
* Excellent knowledge of online research databases.
* Comfortable working with ambiguity in a matrixed environment and proven ability to build strong relationships and collaborate with diverse teams.
* Education/Certification: Must be French bar qualified.
Desirable
* Proficient translation skills to translate legal documentation between French and English.
