As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast‑paced business grow and evolve. Expanded Match is part of Ads Quality Zurich, which is part of Search Ads – the text ads shown on Google Search that power the majority of Google’s business generation and connect millions of businesses to customers. We are a targeting team which means we select the ad candidates that enter the auction. Ads winning the auction show up on Google Search.
Our team, part of Expanded Match, focuses on retrieval and infrastructure. Our work spans from building a low‑latency targeting infrastructure, efficiently and rapidly searching for relevant ad candidates through a large inventory, to developing and analyzing the business generation impact of newer retrieval models in partnership with research teams.

Our teams create trusted experiences between people and businesses with useful ads. We also enable Google to engage with customers at scale.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
* 1 year of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
* 1 year of experience with data structures or algorithms.
* 1 year of experience building and developing large‑scale infrastructure or distributed systems.
Preferred qualifications
* Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
* Experience with information retrieval, Ad quality, and search quality.
* Familiarity with large‑scale distributed systems, and applications in Search or Ads.
Responsibilities
* Write product or system development code. Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
* Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
* Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
* Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
* Own projects end‑to‑end from initial idea to design, analysis, and implementation. Understand production systems, visualize, monitor, and optimize performance.
