In order to succeed the current holder who will soon retire, the University of Geneva offers a position of: Director of the Service (100%) Directly under the authority of the University and placed under the supervision of the Secretary General, you operate in an academic environment characterized by digitalization, increasing complexity, and regular exposure to sensitive issues requiring a proven mastery of crisis management. You play a role in defining and deploying the service policy, which encompasses two essential dimensions: that of spokesperson, primarily exercised in direct connection with the Rector, and that of management. As the guarantor of institutional communication, you contribute to enhancing the visibility and reputation of the institution by coordinating a team of around thirty people. In this context, the definition of the position provides a firm foundation while leaving the possibility of evolving the governance of the Service open, in connection with its various core areas of responsibility: Design and propose the institution’s communication policy; Ensure the management of the University’s image and the institution’s crisis management; Serve as the spokesperson for UNIGE, in close collaboration with the Rector, notably for the precise definition of sensitive messages and the institution’s communication, internally as well as externally; Lead the Communication Service and ensure its management (HR and finances); Supervise relationships with local media; Deploy and structure internal communication at the University; Coordinate activities related to the web, social media, digital and printed materials, events, and promotion of the institution to its various audiences; Ensure the representation of UNIGE at public events, as well as the organization and follow-up of public events; Ensure the implementation of the institution’s communication strategy and its correct alignment with faculties, centers, divisions, etc.; Ensure collaboration with public affairs, particularly in terms of coherence of institutional policies; Actively contribute to analysis, and if necessary, to the evolution of the governance of the Communication Service in line with its different areas and the university’s objectives. Your profile and skills for success in this role: Holding a master’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent, you have confirmed experience of five to eight years in a spokesperson or director role, ideally gained within a significant public or parapublic institution. You demonstrate leadership based on strong team management skills and personnel management. Experienced in crisis management, composed in all circumstances, you intervene effectively at various levels. Your excellent sense of communication, combined with a strong sense of diplomacy and real competencies in negotiation enables you to develop and maintain constructive relationships with diverse stakeholders. You understand the stakeholders of such institutions (authorities, higher education institutions, other partners), are familiar with the landscape in Romandy, Switzerland, and know how to navigate beyond it when the stakes require it.
