OPERABILITY LEAD ENGINEER (OLE)
This Position reports to the Operability / Ops Readiness Manager; when assigned to a specific project, the line manager is the FPSO Operations Manager or Ops Readiness Lead.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as the internal client for technical acceptance of the Project’s delivery scope.
- Supervise, coordinate and plan the workload of SBM OPERATIONS Discipline Superintendents, ensuring constructive collaboration between them and the project team.
- Provide operability and maintainability input into design, construction and completion stages of EPC(I) projects to achieve a fit‑for‑purpose, safe, operable, maintainable and economical product, compliant with all contractual and SBM requirements.
- Monitor quality and consistency in the refurbishment, conversion, construction and commissioning of EPC(I) projects, following best practices and client and SBM requirements.
- Maintain, coordinate and close out the SBM OPERATIONS Comments Register (OCR); support bi‑weekly meetings with EPM to resolve issues.
MAIN TASKS
- Serve as the SBM OPERATIONS focal point for project design and procurement (OLE is the operational counterpart of the project’s EPM).
- Review operability and technical aspects of new proposals to ensure the Win phase design meets operating contract and SBM standards.
- Ensure RAM (Reliability, Availability and Maintainability) compliance with contractual expectations, maximizing safety, efficiency and uptime.
- Confirm engineering, construction and commissioning work meets SBM GTS, quality standards, procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Verify and follow up on project compliance with contractual and SBM standards, documenting deviations and obtaining necessary approvals.
- Coordinate attendance at project design, technical safety and vendor reviews (e.g., Hazops, model reviews, vendor TBEs, FATs).
- Develop plans and review matrices for Operations in EDMS document review cycles.
- Participate in reviewing engineering documentation, O&M manuals, procedures and operational test procedures (OTPs).
- Maintain an overview and verification plan for CMMS development and spare parts progress.
- Define sparing strategy for installed and non‑installed systems/equipment with project engineering, Asset Integrity, RAM owners and commercial teams.
- Promote life‑cycle costing during proposal, design, construction and commissioning phases.
- Coordinate mechanical completion verification, follow‑up through system completion, and ensure adherence to CTRs and OTPs.
- Ensure project completion databases are populated and test records are signed.
- Report and act on any deficiencies as they arise.
- Facilitate technical hand‑over between Project and SBM OPERATIONS.
- Consolidate technical input for Pre‑sail‑away and Pre‑start‑up audit actions.
- Assist with final commissioning and safe, efficient start‑up of units, in agreement with contractual obligations.
- Write and issue progress reports and presentations to the Assets team.
- Organise lessons‑learned presentations to the project team, supported by the OPERATIONS Lessons Management team and the OLE.
- Feed back technical, operational and commercial lessons learned to group and operations management systems, GTS and future projects.
Job Requirements
- University degree, BSc or MSc in relevant engineering field (Process, Marine, Mechanical, etc.).
- 5–10 years of experience in oil and gas, with knowledge of FPSO design, engineering processes, and experience in topside construction or shipyards.
- Preferable experience in FPSO operations or understanding of regulatory requirements related to FPSOs.
- Fluent spoken and written English.
- Availability to travel internationally (medium term).
- Ability to work independently, assess and prioritise situations, and influence effectively.
- High safety awareness, proactive attitude, strong interpersonal communication, and supervisory/leadership skills.
