The Department of Biomedical Engineering (DBE) at the University of Basel is seeking a highly qualified and motivated operational head for the CADENCE Core Facility.
This position plays a central role as the interface between the Department and the Core Facility, ensuring seamless coordination, strategic alignment, and high‑quality service delivery to researchers and collaborators.
About The CADENCE Core Facility
The CADENCE Core Facility is a technology platform within the DBE that supports research in human movement, biomechanics, and neuromuscular function. It provides state‑of‑the‑art instrumentation for motion capture, force measurement, wearable sensor technologies, and advanced data analysis. The facility enables researchers, clinicians, and industry partners to conduct high‑precision assessments of human movement and performance, supporting projects ranging from fundamental biomechanics to clinical rehabilitation and device development.
Your position
As Operational Head, you will oversee the scientific, operational, and financial management of the CADENCE Core Facility. You will be employed by the DBE University of Basel and accountable to the Managing Director of the DBE. You will work closely with the Steering Group and the User Board of the Core Facility, including biomedical engineers, movement scientists, and clinicians, as well as with research personnel such as postdoctoral researchers and PhD students.
Your key tasks include:
Managing the organizational, technical, and financial aspects of the Core Facility
Operate and set up the infrastructure for and together with users
Maintaining a comprehensive financial overview, including budgeting and annual financial planning
Setting operational goals for the coming year and implementing scientific, technical, and operational improvements
Providing technical training and ensuring safe, efficient use of the facility
Preparing and maintaining collaboration agreements, data sharing agreements, and service contracts
Ensuring visibility and organizing outreach activities of the Core Facility
Annual reporting about the Core Facility
Your profile
We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications:
A PhD with at least five years of work experience in a relevant scientific or engineering field
Experience with movement laboratories or related technologies
Leadership experience and a proactive, solution‑oriented mindset
Strong written and oral communication and negotiation skills with all stakeholders
Strong organizational skills
Strong attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality operational standards
Familiarity with legal and ethical frameworks governing human studies
Experience in budgeting and maintaining a strategic financial overview
Ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams
Familiarity with academic environments (advantageous)
Industry experience (advantageous)
Language skills: English and German C1 level
