Assistant Professor in Information and Computer Security (tenure-track), Faculty of
The Faculty of Informatics at Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Information and Computer Security. The role emphasizes excellence in research and teaching, and candidates with strong backgrounds in all areas of Security are encouraged to apply. The position is available from autumn 2025, with a preferred start date as early as September 1, 2025.
USI, established in 1996, is a dynamic university renowned for its interdisciplinary education and active research environment. It is ranked among the top 10 small universities worldwide by Times Higher Education. Located in Lugano, Switzerland, the Faculty of Informatics hosts about 200 international researchers conducting research across eight macro-areas, supported by significant funding, including ERC grants.
The faculty offers programs entirely in English and provides access to advanced research facilities, including a local university cluster and the Swiss high-performance computing center (CSCS). The university supports research activities through funding for Ph.D. positions and travel.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate must:
* Hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science or related fields.
* Have a strong research record in information security, system security, applied cryptography, or related areas.
* Demonstrate the ability to develop and sustain a research group with external funding.
* Be willing to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in information and computer security, all conducted in English.
Responsibilities
The candidate will be expected to:
* Teach one 6-ECTS course in the first year, followed by one 6-ECTS course per semester.
* Participate actively in university activities, including faculty meetings, committees, and student supervision.
Additional Information
Availability to travel within Switzerland and internationally for collaboration and research is required. Salary will be determined according to university statutes. Professors are typically based in Ticino and are expected to participate fully in academic activities.
