Job Dimensions
Purpose: The team is within The Modelling and Analysis for Trading Strategy (MATS) department, responsible for end‑to‑end design and development of quantitative models, analytical and AI tools, and research that optimises trading decisions across all TGP trading desks. Positioned at the strategic interface between Trading, Risk Management and IT, it guarantees the agility, robustness and continuous innovation of the algorithms driving TGP market strategy.
Objectives: Develop and maintain high‑performance algorithmic and AI‑driven quantitative products tailored for trading and energy optimisation. Build and maintain long‑lasting frameworks for various advanced use cases (forecasting, AutoML, optimisation, physical dispatch, back‑testing, etc.), capable of adapting to diverse trading strategies and addressing complex challenges such as pricing, hedging, trading, transactions, and asset management.
Impact: The role directly impacts TGP’s trading performance by contributing to long‑term P&L growth through scalable, reusable and intelligent solutions that last.
Contribution: The forecasts, optimisations and trading strategies developed in MATS are expected to significantly impact the P&L of Power, Gas and LNG trading activities across various geographies.
Activities
* Develop scalable, reusable, intelligent frameworks that contribute to long‑term P&L growth, ensuring they are maintainable, production‑grade solutions.
* Build extensible frameworks that evolve with business needs and are used across different trading desks.
* Iteratively enhance frameworks to support rapid feature delivery while minimising technical debt and ensuring long‑term maintainability.
* Provide support to users (data scientists from MATS teams and traders) by leveraging your solid understanding of the tools; facilitate their work by presenting features and guiding them to fully utilise the capabilities of the frameworks.
* Collaborate with partner teams (e.g. Algo Strategies, Modelling & Analysis) to co‑develop specialised tools, ensuring flexibility for researchers while maintaining core architectural standards.
* Work on a variety of problems related to energy and commodity markets and acquire business knowledge.
Accountabilities
* Test and integrate advanced techniques and quantitative algorithms, with a focus on continuous improvement.
* Create accompanying applications (such as interactive visualisation and simulations) to facilitate user understanding and interaction with the core frameworks.
* Promote best development practices to ensure quality and robustness of usage.
* Contribute to comprehensive documentation to guide users in utilising our applications effectively.
* Communicate frequently with the core teams of MATS and trading desks to ensure solid business knowledge, understanding of trading desk activities, challenges, and pain points.
