 
        
        Overview
We’re looking for a Lead Automation Engineer to oversee automation and control systems supporting biologics drug substance manufacturing. This role will provide technical leadership for automation design, implementation, qualification, and lifecycle support of bioreactors, downstream systems, utilities, and supporting facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Define and execute automation strategy for upstream/downstream process areas (bioreactors, chromatography skids, filtration, clean utilities).
Lead development and qualification of process control systems (DeltaV, PLC/SCADA, local automation).
Ensure robust system integration with MES, PI historian, LIMS, and ERP systems.
Coordinate automation deliverables with Process, CQV, IT, QA, and project engineering teams.
Manage external system integrators and vendors throughout project lifecycle.
Author and approve URS, FDS, SDS, FAT/SAT, and CSV documentation.
Ensure compliance with GAMP 5, GMP, and data integrity regulations.
Support audits, inspections, and troubleshooting of process automation issues.
Drive automation standardization, digitalization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
Degree in Automation, Process Control, or related Engineering discipline.
8+ years’ experience in automation for biotech/biopharma manufacturing.
Deep technical expertise in DeltaV or equivalent DCS and automation integration with process systems.
Experience with PAT tools, batch automation, and data management.
Understanding of GMP, validation (CSV), and lifecycle documentation requirements.
Experience leading teams or automation packages within capital projects.
Fluent English required; German an asset.
