Trading Operator – EMEA

Role Overview
The Trading Operator is responsible for executing trades from contract conclusion by the Trading teams to cash collection.
Main Activities / Responsibilities
* Deliver seamless and effective service to Holcim’s business partners (customers, ship owners, brokers, suppliers) in a timely manner.
* Ensure integrity of information flows to and from internal and external stakeholders.
* Manage risks under the responsibility and guidance of the Trading teams within defined segregation of duties.
* Propose improvements to the Trading teams and integrate customer feedback to enhance Holcim’s value proposition.
* Manage execution of trades administration for bulkcarriers, containers and multimodal transportation, driving supply‑chain schedules and daily updates directly with stakeholders.
* Track cargo, shipping and multimodal commitments, escalating performance issues to internal stakeholders (Traders, Shipping, Supply Chain, Legal, Management).
* Maintain integrity, timeliness and quality of information provided to stakeholders through internal checks and controls.
* Obtain, issue and organise documentary/shipping instruction and customs documentation with suppliers, customers, banks, ship owners and logistics providers; arrange surveyors and inspections where required.
* Coordinate vessel nomination and acceptance with Chartering Managers and the Shipping department.
* Implement mitigation measures to avoid risks, disruptions or losses related to vessel operations and trade execution.
* Control laytime calculations and claims with ship owners, suppliers and customers.
* Initiate cash‑in, cash‑out processes upstream from Finance.
* Prepare reports and statistics for team leaders, traders and other stakeholders.
* Escalate operational issues to the team leader, trader or chartering manager.
* Share market and business intelligence collected through daily interactions with customers and suppliers.
* Forward customer inquiries to the relevant trader.
* Adhere to the Holcim Code of Business Conduct, Trading Policy and Shipping Directive and all relevant Holcim policies.
* Protect the Holcim Group reputation and brand value for seaborne trading activities.
* Anticipate, mitigate and resolve trade incidents under the guidance of the Trading team, suggesting mitigation strategies.
* Alert team leader and traders to material risks, policy breaches or deviations from delegation of authority, in line with Holcim’s segregation of duties.
* Strictly comply with the Operational Operating model, including processes and tools.
Profile
* Minimum 3–5 years of experience in trading, shipping, freight forwarding and supply‑chain logistics operations.
* Strong understanding of international seaborne trading, maritime regulations, and logistics; knowledge of multimodal transportation, customs and inventory documentation (DAP/DPD); knowledge of trade finance tools; knowledge of laytime calculations and shipping terms.
* Customer‑service orientation, building long‑term business relationships.
* Experience in risk management, preventing consequential losses and cost avoidance.
* Comfortable working in a multicultural environment; bilingual or multilingual, at least full‑professional proficiency in English and French; additional languages are a plus.
* Mature, disciplined, detail‑oriented, good communicator at all levels, diplomatic, able to adapt; multitasking and prioritization skills with composure in challenging situations.
Education / Qualification
Commercial degree in international trading, shipping, logistics, freight forwarding or a related field.
