Join a paid summer internship where you will work on a practical engineering challenge at the heart of industrial decarbonisation. Through the InTent Internship Programme (#IIP), you will help improve the energy efficiency of an electric drying process that supports circular food systems and lower-emission industry.
About the hosting organisation
ProSeed is a Switzerland-based start-up developing industrial microwave drying systems that replace conventional gas-fired hot-air dryers. Its technology is designed to improve moisture control, preserve heat-sensitive compounds, reduce fossil fuel use, and help industries extract more value from existing raw materials and by-products.
The Position
You will support the project Engineering Intern, Energy Efficiency Optimization of Industrial Drying Process. The role focuses on analysing the current pilot drying line, identifying energy losses, testing improvement levers, and helping strengthen the case for fully electric drying as a viable alternative to gas-based systems.
What You Will Work On
* Develop and refine 3D models of key components of the electric drying system
* Perform thermodynamic and heat transfer simulations to improve energy performance
* Support system design improvements based on simulation and pilot results
* Contribute to the development of next-generation drying configurations
* Participate in pilot-scale testing and validation of design improvements
* Support scale-up considerations from pilot to industrial deployment
* Collaborate with the engineering team on technical development and design decisions
Requirements
Who you Are
You are a Master’s student in mechanical, process, energy, or a similar engineering field. You bring a strong understanding of thermodynamics and heat transfer, enjoy solving practical technical problems, and are comfortable combining analysis with hands-on work on pilot systems.
What you Bring
* Strong understanding of thermodynamics and heat transfer
* Comfortable with 3D modelling tools (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar)
* Experience or interest in COMSOL for thermal and energy simulations
* Analytical, structured, and able to work autonomously on a project
* Able to work hands-on with pilot systems
* Strong written and spoken English
Benefits
What You Will Gain
* Hands-on experience in industrial process optimisation and energy efficiency
* Exposure to a real pilot plant and applied engineering for sustainability
* Stronger skills in process analysis, modelling, and experimental validation
* Insight into how low-emission industrial technologies move towards adoption
* Experience contributing to a solution that supports circular biomass use and industrial electrification
Additional Information
* This is a paid internship offered through the InTent Internship Programme (#IIP)
* The internship is expected to start between 15 June and 15 July 2026 and will run for 3 months
* Selected interns may also become part of the broader programme journey, including the virtual kick-off on 16 July 2026 and the SEED Impact Summit on 24 September 2026
