Job Summary
B&A is seeking a highly qualified Systems Engineer to support the provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software, and infrastructure components. This position is critical to ensuring the performance, security, and reliability of enterprise-level database and server environments, and requires advanced expertise in both Oracle and SQL Server ecosystems. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on technical depth, leadership, and innovation in system engineering and database support within a secure, mission-critical environment.
Responsibilities
* Install, configure, and maintain system hardware, operating systems, and application infrastructure in accordance with organizational policies and DoD standards.
* Provide technical support and hands-on delivery for Oracle and/or SQL Server environments, including database installation, administration, tuning, backup, and recovery.
* Support system lifecycle functions including planning, system integration, testing, deployment, and documentation.
* Conduct performance and capacity analysis to support system scaling and high availability.
* Participate in technical research and development to recommend innovations that improve operational efficiency.
* Ensure all systems, software, and infrastructure are compliant with security protocols and best practices.
* Maintain system documentation including specifications, configuration baselines, and change management logs.
* Collaborate with stakeholders and technical teams to communicate project status, requirements, and risks effectively.
* Troubleshoot and resolve issues across system, database, and network layers.
Education And Experience
* Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in systems or infrastructure engineering.
* Five (5) years of hands-on experience in Oracle and/or SQL Server database administration and support.
Required Skills
* Relevant certification from a nationally recognized technical authority (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert).
* DoD 8570 Baseline Certification – IAT Level II (e.g., Security+ CE, GSEC, SSCP, CySA+).
* Proficient with Oracle Database 11g, PL/SQL programming, Oracle stored procedures, performance tuning, E-R modeling, and backup/recovery.
* Experienced with Windows Server 2016 and HP-UX 11.3.x operating systems.
* Strong understanding of systems analysis, security best practices, and system documentation.
* Microsoft Certified, with experience in SQL Server 2012 administration, T-SQL programming, tuning, backup/recovery, and system security.
* Strong knowledge of Windows Server 2016 and related infrastructure.
* Familiarity with systems analysis and documentation practices.
Desired Skills
* Experience working in DoD or federal IT environments with strong familiarity with compliance frameworks (STIGs, RMF, FISMA).
* Hands-on experience with automation and scripting tools (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Ansible) for database and systems tasks.
* Exposure to hybrid cloud environments (e.g., Azure, AWS) and database migration strategies.
* Strong understanding of high availability configurations, clustering, and replication in both Oracle and SQL Server.
* Experience collaborating on DevSecOps or Agile project teams.
* Ability to analyze complex technical problems and communicate solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong documentation and reporting capabilities.
Security Clearance
* Must hold an active Secret Clearance.
