Description
The Y is a leading nonprofit for strengthening community, and the nation’s larger provider of swim lessons to increase skill and safety in and around water. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures and serves our members and community as a whole, through our YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Free family YMCA membership for applicants household if hired.
Responsibilities
* Instruct swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines.
* Has prepared lesson plans as appropriate. We will train all swim instructors, no experience needed, being on a swim team is a plus.
* Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA.
* Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
* Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and if appropriate refers students and parents to other programs.
* Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports).
* Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
* Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes all reports as necessary.
* Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
* Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.
Qualifications
* Should demonstrate strong leadership, interpersonal communication, and customer service skills.
* Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
* At least 15 years of age.
* CPR, First Aid, AED certifications; Paid Child Abuse Prevention training prior hire date. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications; Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
Physical Demands
* Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
* Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
