Postdoctoral Fellow in plasma‑based free electron lasers
Swiss Light Source (Paul Scherrer Institute) – Postdoctoral Fellow with contract limited to 2 years.
About the position
Electrical beam instrumentation group at PSI develops instruments to measure properties of electron beams. The group participates in EuPRAXIA and PACRI projects to build a free‑electron laser based on a plasma accelerator. The successful candidate will design, build and operate diagnostics for plasma‑driven free electron lasers, conduct modeling and experiments, analyse data, and collaborate with international partners.
Your tasks
* Design and develop instrumentation for characterising and optimising plasma‑driven free‑electron lasers, including diagnostics for beam quality, electron beam parameters, and radiation characteristics.
* Model physical processes and conduct experimental work at SwissFEL and partners of the EuPRAXIA consortium.
* Analyse experimental data and simulation results to validate theoretical models and identify improvement areas.
* Collaborate with international partners to advance the development of plasma‑based free‑electron lasers.
* Present research results at international conferences and workshops.
* Write manuscripts and contribute to publications in scientific journals.
Your profile
* PhD in Physics or related field, ideally with a background in free‑electron lasers or plasma physics.
* Additional expertise in instrumentation and diagnostics is a significant asset.
* Strong data analysis capabilities and a proven record of publishing in scientific journals.
* Self‑motivated, able to drive projects independently.
* Excellent leadership skills and ability to inspire and motivate peers.
* Effective collaboration skills in an international, multicultural environment.
We offer
* Interdisciplinary, innovative environment with systematic on‑the‑job training.
* Support for work–family life balance and modern employment conditions.
* Modern on‑site infrastructure.
