PThe Institute for Medical Education (IML) is a center of excellence in medical education. As a university institution, we work in the fields of research, teaching, service and development and supervise projects at the cantonal, national and international level. /p pThis PhD Student post is part of the project “LLM4Humans - Empowering humans with local Large Language Models (LLM) in research and clinical practice” which is a collaboration project of the IML with the Department of Clinical Research Bern (DCR) are seeking to fill the following position immediately or upon agreement for a period of four years:br/br/bPhD Student in using AI for (qualitative) research 100% /b /p bYour Tasks /b liEvaluate existing local and online Large Language Models (LLMs) and develop guidance for using these LLMs for analyzing qualitative research data. /liliUse interviews and data science methodologies to investigate and compare the analysis of qualitative data by humans and LLMs. /liliExecute and disseminate four scientific studies (incl. publications) under supervision /li bYour profile /b liUniversity degree in psychology, cognitive, social or data sciences or medicine /liliMethodological knowhow (preferably in qualitative research methods and/or large language models/data sciencies) /liliProfound knowledge of English both written and spoken /liliInterest and motivation to engage in this innovative field /liliFlair for scientific writing /liliGood team working skills /liliGerman language skills are of advantage /li bWe offer /b liExcellent supervision and collaboration in a motivated, interdisciplinary team consisting of qualitative research experts, data science experts, Post-Docs and PhD students /liliGreat deal of flexibility /liliFully funded further education as part of the PhD project in the Graduate School for Health Sciences Bern, /liliEstablished academic infrastructure (language editing, statistical support, administrative sup-port, etc.). /liliRemuneration in accordance with the guidelines of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF, /liliMain supervisor will be Prof. Sören Huwendiek from the IML /li For questions, please contact Sören Huwendiek, MD, PHD, MME: Please send your application with the usual documents electronically to by the end of February 2026 at the latest.
