SECTION I: GENERAL INFORMATION

Position Title: Special Education Coordinator: Curriculum and Assistive Technology

Department: Student Services

Immediate Supervisor's Position Title: Executive Director of Student Services

FLSA Status: Exempt

Salary Range: $85,000-115,000


General Summary of Purpose of Job

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Student Services, the Special Education Coordinator: Curriculum and Assistive Technology provides leadership and coordination to support the effective implementation of special education services across the district. This position ensures equitable access to curriculum for students with disabilities through the integration of evidence‑based instructional practices and assistive technology. This role collaborates with administrators, teachers, related service providers, and families to align services with student needs and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Additionally, the position builds staff capacity through coaching, professional development, and resource coordination. The overall purpose of this role is to improve student outcomes by ensuring consistent, compliant, and high‑quality special education practices.


SECTION II: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Oversee the development and management of special education curriculum and resources to ensure efficient service delivery.
* Facilitate communication and partnership with families, outside agencies, and community providers to support student services curriculum and assistive technology resources.
* Coordinate acquisition, inventory, and management of assistive technology devices and software in collaboration with student services administrative assistant.
* Oversee the implementation and alignment of special education curriculum with Minnesota Standards and district initiatives.
* Coordinate access to instructional resources and support staff in implementing evidence‑based and specially designed instruction.
* Coordinate the selection, implementation, and monitoring of assistive technology (AT) services in alignment with student IEPs.
* Facilitate collaboration among special education staff, general education staff, and related service providers to ensure coordinated service delivery.
* Coordinate and facilitate professional development related to special education curriculum, high leverage practices, accessibility, and assistive technology.
* Develop resources, guides, and tools to support consistent implementation of curriculum and resources across the district.
* Recommend and support the integration of low‑tech and high‑tech solutions to increase student access and independence.
* Coordinate and support assistive technology trials, including collaboration with occupational therapists, speech language pathologists, and special education staff to determine appropriate tools for student access.
* Conduct classroom observations and provide coaching to support effective implementation of special education curriculum and instructional practices.
* Collaborate with teachers, instructional coaches, and related service providers to evaluate curriculum effectiveness and adjust supports based on student needs and outcomes.
* Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Student Services to support district goals and the effective operation of student support services.


SECTION III: WORK REQUIREMENTS AND CHARACTERISTICS

Minimum education and experience required to perform adequately in position could reasonably be attained only by completing the following:

* High school diploma or GED.
* Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
* Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in special education.
* Supervisory Experience.


PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

* Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field, and/or administrative licensure.
* Experience in a leadership role (e.g., instructional coach, lead teacher, or TOSA) with responsibility for supporting staff, systems, or programming.

Advanced knowledge and experience in assistive technology, curriculum implementation, and special education compliance, including training or coaching staff.


LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

* Minnesota Teaching License in Special Education or a related service area.


ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE WORK

* Federal and state special education laws, including IDEA and Minnesota Rule 3525.
* IEP development, evaluation processes, and due process requirements.
* Special education service delivery models and a continuum of services.
* Evidence‑based instructional practices and specially designed instruction.
* Assistive technology tools, assessments, and implementation practices.
* Minnesota Standards and inclusive curriculum practices.
* Data systems, progress monitoring, and compliance reporting requirements.
* Coordinating multiple programs, timelines, and compliance requirements simultaneously.
* Analyzing and interpreting student data to support decision‑making.
* Providing professional development and coaching to staff.
* Effective written and verbal communication with diverse stakeholders.
* Problem‑solving and conflict resolution in complex situations.
* Using technology systems, including SpEd Forms and data management tools.
* Managing and prioritizing multiple responsibilities in a fast‑paced environment.
* Interpreting and applying laws, policies, and procedures accurately and consistently.
* Collaborating effectively with staff, families, and outside agencies.
* Maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information appropriately.
* Working independently while also contributing to a team environment.
* Leading and supporting change initiatives within special education programs.
* Building positive relationships and providing leadership without direct supervision.
