Professorship for Muon Spectroscopy
The Faculty of Science (MNF) at the University of Zurich (UZH) and the PSI Center for Neutron and Muon Sciences (CNM) at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) jointly invite applications for the Professorship.
Responsibilities
* Lead research in muon spectroscopy for materials science, including quantum and energy materials.
* Develop and use muon instrumentation at the Swiss Muon Source (SμS).
* Mentor and supervise PhD, Bachelor, and Master students.
* Teach courses in condensed matter physics, quantum materials, and muon science.
* Head the Laboratory for Muon Spin Spectroscopy (LMU) and manage a team of approximately 20 scientific, technical, and administrative staff.
* Engage with NCCR Muoniverse, QMMC, and the UZH DEMETER Center.
* Acquire external research funding and develop a mid‑term scientific strategy for SμS.
Qualifications
* Established researcher in quantum and/or energy materials with a proven track record of publications and third‑party funding.
* Expertise in muon spectroscopy and development of muon instrumentation.
* Experience in teaching and supervising students.
* Demonstrated leadership in managing large‑scale research infrastructure.
* Excellent communication skills and motivation to develop the LMU.
